7 Ways To Aid A Pre-schooler's Development
Children go through rapid physical and cognitive development between the ages of one to six. As parents, we know you would love to be involved in their journey to help them and make sure everything goes smoothly. Here are seven ways in which you can help your child in his/her all-around development.
Ensure Good Sleep
When children don’t get sufficient sleep, it disturbs their mood, daily activities, eating habits, and brain functions. You must therefore ensure that they get quality sleep. Studies suggest that adequate sleep helps your preschooler learn better. On the other hand, lack of sleep can adversely affect their cognitive development in the first three years.
Provide Them with A Healthy Diet
The nutritional needs of children change as they grow and develop. A healthy diet should provide them with the right amount of all nutrients Thus, it is important to include all major food groups like grains, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products in their daily meals.
However, many times a diet might not be enough. Adding Junior Horlicks to your child’s diet helps bridge these nutritional gaps and provides them with nutrients like Choline, Iron, Iodine, etc., which are known to support brain development, as well as calcium, Vitamin D, vitamin K & Protein which are known to support physical growth and development. It also contains nutrients such as selenium & copper to support healthy immune function.
Ensure Regular Exercise
It is important that you encourage your child to exercise regularly. Not only will this help in strengthening their growing bones and muscles, but it will also inculcate in them a healthy habit that will help them throughout their lives. Take them to a park or a play area, enroll them in a dance class, or have them simply run in your backyard.
Play with Your Child5
Games are a crucial part of a child’s development. Play involves creating a stimulating environment wherein your child will be encouraged to explore. It is a commonly used tool by both parents and teachers. Below are a few examples of games that you can play to help your child develop well:
- Organised team games
- Board games
- Stacking blocks
- Instructional games like ‘I spy’
- Jigsaw puzzles and riddles
- Games that make them match, compare, sort
Ensure Proper Hygiene6
Inculcating habits of washing hands before and after eating, brushing teeth twice a day, and keeping their play area or their room clean are some ways in which you can ensure that their health isn’t compromised and affected by germs and other harmful bacteria. Poor hygiene can result in diarrhea, skin diseases, weaker immunity, etc. Good hygiene practices boost your child’s immunity and keep them from falling ill.
Encourage Language Development7
This is the time when your child is learning how to pronounce words, construct meaningful sentences, learn complex words etc. You can encourage this development by making them read aloud, recite poems, pronounce a new word every day, and say ‘tongue-twisters’.
Spend Quality Time with them8
Research shows that parents who spend quality time with their children either by just having a conversation or by playing with them, tend to raise better socially and emotionally developed individuals. Therefore, make sure to spend time with them and take an interest in their problems, activities, etc.
At this age, your child is dependent on you for his/her development and the efforts you take to ensure that he/she develops well, matter a lot. So, be more vigilant and informed, and watch your child develop well.
